Mrs. Schiffner's Computer Science Discovery class was introduced to the open-ended, collaborative, and creative problem-solving students will be using over the rest if the unit and course. The teams have to define their goals, devise a plan, try a solution, evaluate their results, and then iteratively improve from there. The fact that the problem chosen is "non- computational" is intentional. Computer science is fundamentally a problem-solving discipline and staying away from traditional computer science problems at this point helps to frame this class as one about problem -solving more generally with computer science being a new "tool" to help attack certain types of problems.

Heavener public schools was on a temporary and brief lockdown today based on the recommendation of the local law enforcement authorities. No threat was made against our school or community, however, an individual was seen on the east side of town with a firearm strapped to their back. Which gave cause for concern and gave cause for the lockdown recommendation. This individual had made a firearm purchase and had no personal transportation and was walking home to their residence. This purchase has been investigated and confirmed by the local police department. We would like to thank our students, faculty, and staff on how well they conducted themselves during this time. We would also like to thank our school resource officer along with our local police department for their concern of safety for our students, faculty, and staff, and we thank you for your support to our school and community.
Thank you ,
