Slow Pitch Heating Up

Slow pitch softball is here! Coach Sanders is hopeful and ready to take his slow pitch team to the State Tournament. This will be Coach Sanders 14th year to coach slow pitch.  In 13 seasons he has successfully taken his team to state 5 times. Coach Sanders has high hopes that he will return to the tournament for the 6th time. When I asked Coach Sanders, How hard he is willing to push his team he stated, “I will push my team as far as they will let me. I tell them that they are like a wet washcloth and I’m trying to ring out every drop of water that’s in it”.  His goals for this season is to get back to the finals and win it all this year.

Senior Kylee Free has been playing slow pitch softball for the Lady Wolves since her freshman year. Her goal for this season is to break her record again with 32 home runs, she is hoping to get 40 home runs this year.  When I asked Kylee, What has slow pitch taught her she stated, “Slow pitch is a time where everyone really has fun so it’s taught me not to overthink everything and have fun while I can.”

Morgan Alexander is another senior girl playing for the Lady Wolves and she has been playing for 6 years. Her goals for this season are to make it to the state tournament and to eliminate the fielding and base running errors as a team. Morgan usually hits around 15 to 16 home runs a season. She is hoping to break that record with  20 home runs this season. Slow pitch has taught Morgan a lot of things like you can’t win by yourself, it takes everyone on the team, it has also taught her patients and you’re never out of the game and never give up.

Lillian Smith is also a senior for the Lady Wolves and has been playing for 4 years. Her goals for this season are to work hard and to make it to state. Because they got really close last year and she wants to go all the way for her last year. Lillian doesn't think she will get many home runs this season, but she is going to try. Her team has faith in her. When Lillian was asked, What has slow pitch taught her and she said, “Over the years, slow pitch has taught me how to enjoy the moment and how to be patient.”

Brylee Simmons is the last senior girl playing for the Lady Wolves and has been playing since her freshman year, her goals are to get to state and make the least amount of errors. She is hoping to get at least 10 dingers this season. Slow pitch has taught her to be patient, and that teamwork and hardwork is key to success.

Their favorite part about playing slow pitch is that it’s anybody’s game, the bus rides to the games and the way back from games and they all love making memories with each other. The Lady Wolves have their first game Monday against Wister at 5 on Heavener's field.
