Archery Team Keeps Their Eye on the Target

The Heavener High School Archery Team is heading to Oklahoma’s state competition in Tulsa at the Expo Square on Thursday the twenty-first. This is the first year Heavener has had an archery team, so it is a bit unclear how the competition will play out, but that is no reason to not remain hopeful.

“I think that we have a few individuals that have a good chance to do well, but there are several on the team that have not practiced much lately and I fear that it might show. I think that the state competition will be fun and will hopefully raise interest in the [archery] program going forward,” Coach Travis Cook remarked. Out of the sixteen-person team, fifteen are going to compete at state. The team admits feelings of unpreparedness due to being moved out of their original practice space in order to make room for spring sports, but they are not letting that dissuade them from performing at their best. After all, to quote Kahlil Gibran, “The archer sees the make upon the path of the infinite, and He bends you with His might that His arrows may go swift and far.” The archery team is focused; they are not going to lay down their arms in response to the daunting task of state competition. The wolves refuse to leave without a fight.
