On behalf of Heavener Athletics, I would like to invite everyone to join our new Heavener Athletic Gold Club. As everyone is aware due to COVID-19 , attendance( which is the primary funding for our athletic program) is way down. As such, we are reaching out to our Heavener alumni, fans, staff and parents to help provide our student athletics with the tools they need to play and compete. In recognition each gold member will be recognized during the year at one or more of our sporting events. The cost of membership will be $10 per month or $120 for the year. Please make checks out to Heavener Gold Club. You can mail a check to “Heavener Athletics” PO Box 698.. Heavener 74937 or drop a check off at the Scott Center. Our goal is to reach 100 members!!! Recently your student may have received a P-EBT card. This may have seemed random and very confusing to you as a parent. The following information has been provided from various agencies explaining the program. “On June 25, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) announced Oklahoma’s approval to operate a Pandemic Electronic Benefits Transfer (P-EBT) program through funding provided under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act. P-EBT provides extra food benefits for families with school-aged children who would have received free or reduced-priced school meals through the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and who meet certain eligibility criteria. Oklahoma Human Services (OKDHS) and the Oklahoma State Department of Education (OSDE) worked together to create a state plan ensuring that every eligible household across the state could access benefits without needing to complete an application. Through a collaborative data-sharing agreement, current SNAP households identified by OKDHS, as well as non-SNAP households which include children eligible for free and reduced-price school meals identified by OSDE, will automatically receive P-EBT benefits.” Heavener Public Schools is a Community Eligible Program school and every student qualifies for free meals. Due to this program each Heavener Public School student should receive a P-EBT card with up to $250 credit for food benefits from the state, not the school. The community Eligible Program is/and continues to be a vital program for our community, your support in filling out the applications each year is important for this program, thank you for your cooperation and support.

COVID 19 UPDATE 8-18-20 WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 19, 2020 Wolf Nation! Heavener Public Schools considers the Oklahoma State Department of Health’s weekly COVID-19 Alert System, CDC recommendations and other health guidance to help us determine appropriate safety protocols for our schools each week. The SDE COVID-19 Alert System, which measures the risk of exposure across the state, is currently ORANGE 1 for Leflore County. This means we are at the moderate, level of risk. You can view the color-coded risk map at https://coronavirus.health.ok.gov/covid-19-alert-system The following safety measures will apply: • Required health screenings and temperature checks of staff, students and visitors prior to entry • Encouraged social distancing of 6 feet on all school district property when possible • Encouraged increased hygiene practices, ventilation and cleaning practices • Masks for all staff and students in hallways, common areas and during school transportation. Masks may be removed while seated inside classrooms. Exceptions are when eating meals, nap times, recess and during physical education activities. • Restricted campus visitation; visitors must make an appointment and will be required to wear a mask while on premises at all times. Health screenings and temperature checks will be required for all visitors. • Encouraged parent drop-off and pick-up of students to minimize the number of students on buses. • FYI our school district point of contact for health and wellness is Nurse Winters, Nurse Winters can be reached at 918-653-4313 The district’s ongoing commitment to conduct regular cleaning, to encourage frequent handwashing and to promote social distancing when possible will be enforced as well. If you have questions about these guidelines, please contact your school office. We ask you to continue to be mindful of current health strategies to mitigate the spread of this virus. There is nothing more important to Heavener Public Schools than the safety and health of our students and staff. We appreciate your cooperation, understanding and support. GO WOLVES! CONTACT US

From Mr. Westfall Our upper elementary teachers (grades 6-8) have been contacting parents and developing lessons for online students and for students who need printed take-home packets. We understand that this process is unfamiliar and unprecedented, but for anyone who has any concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at 918.653.2815. You can leave a voice mail with your name and number, and I will call you. If you prefer to email your questions, my email address is jwestfall@heavenerschools.org. For parents who requested bus deliveries of printed learning packets, we have placed those packets by grade level with the bus drivers for those routes. (Please see the previous post on bus route schedules). For parents who are driving to the school to pick up printed learning packets, those packets are available for pickup at the main elementary office building’s drive-thru line from 8am - 10:30am. For students who have online access, your teachers are communicating online activities through your student email accounts. Please check your email for instructions. I want to express my thanks to the families of our students. Your positive attitude and support is of utmost importance to this process as we navigate the next few weeks.
