I Wrote This For You: 2007-2017 Book Review

Rating: ★★★★★

On the back cover of I Wrote This For You 2007-2017 is written, “I need you to understand something. Ten years ago, I started writing this for you. I wrote it for you and only you. Since then, a million other people have read it, but none have understood it the way you understand it. I set out to find you a long time ago and today, I’m so glad I finally have. Thank you for reading these words.”

Poet Iain S. Thomas—pen name: pleasefindthis—along with photographer Jon Ellis, created this world where feelings and memories come flooding back in a wave of emotion. Reading these poems makes one realize that there are people who are going through the exact same thing as you are going through. Whether it be heartbreak or forgiveness. There are 316 pages filled with poems invoking feelings of melancholy afternoons spent opening a box of beautifully excruciating memories, knowing that one is in love by every glance, touch, and heartbeat, and looking toward the future and never, ever looking back. Everything that makes us the messy, beautiful humans that we are is perfectly executed in this book of poetry.

I Wrote This For You 2007-2017 is a compilation of Iain S. Thomas’s most memorable works from this past decade. The meaning of each poem is entirely left to the interpretation of each reader which was exactly the goal of Iain S. Thomas’s from starting this project in 2007. Iain S. Thomas and Jon Ellis paired up to combine poetry and photography to give each reader an experience that is entirely unique to each and every person that reads the poems. Anyone who reads this collection of poems is sure to find more than one poem that deeply resonates with them. Every single poem is beautifully written. The pairing of Jon Ellis’s exquisite photography and Iain S. Thomas’s heart-achingly beautiful poetry makes for the ultimate experience that readers will cherish for years to come.
