Get Set, Go!

Track season is here! Coach West has high hopes for his team this year. He has been coaching high school track at Heavener for ten years. His goals for this season are to get his athletes to achieve better results than last year and a chance to do well in region and make it to state. Coach West has faith in his team and he believes his team will make it to state again. He has been to state ten times. When I asked Coach West, “How far are you willing to push your team this season?”  he stated, “As far as pushing the team, it is fair to say that I try to maximize and break limits in what we do.” Coach West is ready for this season, he is always ready for track. He loves coaching kids to show off their talents.

Coach Watkins is another coach at Heavener. She has been coaching high school track at Heavener for three seasons. Her goals for this season are for each athlete to reach their full potential and qualify for state. When asked Coach Watkins, “How far are you willing to push your team this season?” She stated, “I’m willing to push them till they all realize their full potential, track has been very successful due to great coaching from Coach West, most of them have a taste of success and the State Meet, these athletes always rise to the challenge and have a great work ethic, it doesn’t take much pushing.” Coach Watkins is ready for this season because she enjoys watching these athletes compete!

       Cactus Shipman is one of the seniors leading the team. He has been running track for the Heavener wolves for three seasons. His goals for this season are just to be the best that he can be. Cactus is pushing himself as hard as his legs will carry him. “When I asked Cactus, How do you think your last season of track will go?” he stated, “Well, my last years haven’t been everything I've hoped. But, I’m confident I will be able to be proud of this season.”

Shaelena Bacon is also a senior track athlete. She has been running track for the Heavener Wolves for two years. Her goal for this season is to make it to state again. She is willing to push herself past her limits. When I asked Shaelena, How do you think your last season of track will go? She stated, “I think it will go great. Like you said it is my last year so I’m going to show out and do what I can to my best ability.” They will have their first track meet on March 12 at Mena. They will leave school at 1 pm.
