Ms. Rachel Nye is the new elementary music teacher. Ms. Nye went to Van Buren High School, and proceeded to graduate from the University of Arkansas in Fort Smith in the spring of 2015. Her major in college was vocal music education. Ms. Nye has previously been a substitute teacher for two years, making this her first year of teaching.

M: What is your favorite part about your classes?

Ms. Nye: I think that my favorite part is actually being able to see the kids learn music, and understand the concept that I am teaching. Then they get excited, you know, because they are understanding what you are trying to teach them, and then I get excited!

M: Did you always want to be a music teacher?

Ms. Nye: Actually, no. I thought that I wanted to be a physical therapist, and then I realized how many science classes you had to take, and how much I hated Science. So, I was like, maybe I’ll be a music teacher, then!

M: Is that what you wanted to be when you were a kid?

Ms. Nye: No, when I was a kid I just wanted to be a famous singer. But I do like teaching!

M: What is your favorite genre of music?

Ms. Nye: My favorite genre would be… that’s a hard question! I would say that Pop is my favorite.

M: Do you have any favorite bands?

Ms. Nye: I have many, but some of my favorites are Fall Out Boy, Maroon 5, and 5 Seconds of Summer, and, of course, NSYNC and the Backstreet Boys. I mean, come on, they’re my generation!

M: What is your idea of the perfect day?

Ms. Nye: I wouldn’t mind if it was raining. If I had a porch, I’d sit in the swing with a blanket and read a book. Also, I would have a cappuccino!
